Los Angeles, CA (Sept. 23, 2017) – Jennifer Cheng and the Cheng Family Foundation present a program of choreography by DIAVOLO, that is a special collaboration between LA’s groundbreaking dance company, DIAVOLO | Architecture in Motion®, Dance Conservatory of Pasadena (DCP), and Arcadia High School’s Orchesis Dance Company.

The program, entitled Next Generation, will have two performances: June 10, 2017 at 2:00 and 7:00pm. The works include D2R (1995, re-staged 2002) and Trajectoire (1999), performed by DIAVOLO itself. Students from the pre-professional program at Dance Conservatory of Pasadena performs Pillows, IBUKI Ballet, Mini door, Knockturne, Chaise, Origine, and Cubica. Orchesis Dance Company performs Cage.

DIAVOLO is working closely with each dance group to pass the ethos and performing techniques to young, local dancers. Recently, the DCP students competed with a DIAVOLO-choreographed piece called Cubica in the Youth American Grand Prix. Cubica was inspired by DIAVOLO’s piece Cubicle which is part of DIAVOLO’s new program L.O.S.T. These students won first place at the semi-finals at YAGP San Diego and performed in the ensemble division at Skirball Theater in YAGP finals in New York City.

Jennifer Cheng, who serves as the Artistic Director of Dance Conservatory of Pasadena and Executive Director of DIAVOLO says, “Jacques Heim, DIAVOLO’s Creative Director, and I, wanted to bring the aesthetic of Architecture in Motion to Dance Conservatory of Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. Dance in Los Angeles is experiencing tremendous growth and becoming a new and exciting center for dance in the world. We want to share this extraordinary new phase in dance to Pasadena, Arcadia and all of San Gabriel Valley.

Cheng continues, “Since we are performing at Arcadia Performing Arts Center, we invited Orchesis, Arcadia High School’s resident dance company, to share in this important performance with their community. We’re so thrilled to work with them and highlight their incredible talent by choreographing a custom DIAVOLO piece for them to present.”

DIAVOLO is deeply woven into the dance fabric of Los Angeles. Their unique style reinvents dance and reimagines theater to create genre-bending stage performances with striking set pieces. Los Angeles Times said, “DIAVOLO has been Los Angeles’ wild child, a company of daredevil dancers leaping and cavorting on pitching wheels, Goliath walls and playground equipment from a super-sized wonderland.”

Founded in 1992 by French-born choreographer and visionary Jacques Heim, DIAVOLO is a cultural pillar of the Los Angeles community and has performed for hundreds of thousands of concertgoers worldwide as well as millions more on television. Next season DIAVOLO will be performing all over the country including Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
